What the job actually involves

A failed run capacitor is the most common and cheapest fix. A seized contactor is close behind. Ice on the suction line usually means low refrigerant from a leak or a badly restricted return, and adding refrigerant without finding the leak is money poured into the yard. If your system uses R-22 or R-410A, refrigerant cost is now a large part of any leak repair.

What moves the price

  • Equipment tier and efficiency rating
  • Whether existing ductwork and venting can be reused
  • Access to the furnace, whether it is a closet, attic, or crawlspace
  • Emergency or after-hours timing, which carries a premium
